Cultural Arts Center’s Summer Camp Lineup

The Cultural Arts Center will be holding summer camps for children during June and July 2019. Registration opens April 22 online and at the center and continues through May 31st. Each camp listing will list the minimum number of students required for the camp to make and that minimum must be met by the deadline of May 31st or the camp stands to be closed and refunds made.  This information can be found on our website www.theculturalartscenter.org as of April 22. 




Week of June 10-14:

*Fairies Art Camp:  ages 6-12, Mon-Fri, 9:00-12:00  COST: $95  Instructor: Dawn Clay
This is the “Magical Camp” where we will explore all things magical and paint fairy ceramics, make fairy wands and houses, draw fairy self-portraits, create fairy gardens, make fairy charm bracelets, and on the last day of camp we will have a Fairy Dress Up Party with food! A Minimum of 8 students required to be registered by May 31 for this camp to make.

*Royal Unicorn Magic Camp:  ages 6-12, Mon-Fri, 1:00-4:00   COST:  $95   Instructor: Dawn Clay
This is our second “Magical Camp” where we will do everything related to unicorns, princesses, and the magic of imagination. We will draw, paint, and sculpt our own unicorns, dress up like a princess, complete a mixed media unicorn, rainbow t-shirts, and make unicorn inspired slime! A Minimum of 8 students required to be registered by May 31 for this camp to make. 

* These camps can be taken simultaneously for $175 but you will need to bring a lunch and stay from 9:00-4:00 these days of camp. Lunch will be supervised by staff. 

Let’s Make A Circus:  ages 6-8, Tues-Thurs, 10:00-12:00   COST: $55  Instructor: Alberta Keener                                             
Students will read and learn about Alexander Calder’s Circus, look at the wonderful illustrations and create their own Circus Ring with flags and banners, wild animals in a cage, an elephant doing a trick, an acrobat on a trapeze, and a pony pulling the circus wagon. It will be just like the “Greatest Show On Earth”. Minimum of 8 students required to be registered by May 31 for camp to make.

PRE-K Camp Away:  ages 4-5(not started school yet), Mon-Fri, 9:30-11:45  COST: $65 Instructors: Veronica Taylor (Dance) and Ann Cotton (Art)                                                       
 Students will start with Creative Movement Class for an hour and will do a variety of dance exercises using manipulatives like scarves, rings, wings, balls, ribbons while they run, skip, jump, roll, bounce, and wave their arms, all to create creative movement. Then there will be a 15-minute break and we will hit the art tables with Cardboard Art creating a slew of animals that we cut, paint, wrap, glue, use yarn, and anything else we come up with to create animals as you’ve never seen before.  Minimum of 5 students and Maximum of 8 in this class of activity and students must be registered by May 31 for camp to make. 

 

Week of June 17-21:

Monet’s Garden Art Camp:  ages 9-13, Mon-Thurs, 9:00-12:00 COST: $65 Instructor: Dawn Clay 
In this camp, we will learn about the life and art of Impressionist Claude Monet, while we create a waterlily clay sculpture, paint our own Monet on Canvas, paint pottery flower vases, paint a seascape, and learn a little French along the way! A minimum of 8 students required to be registered by May 31 for camp to make.

The Basics of Jewelry Making:  ages 10-13, Mon-Thurs, 10:00-12:00   COST: $60   Instructor: Robyn Elliott.                                                   
Students will learn to make simple jewelry using basic techniques and supplies we provide. During the class, you will learn to use tools, measure, arrange your beads artfully, stringing techniques, all to create at least 1 bracelet, 1 necklace, and 1 pair of earrings… a complete set. A minimum of 8 students required to be registered by May 31 for camp to make.

Furniture Art! Making old new again:  ages 14- Adult! Mon-Thur, 2:00-4:00   COST: $ 60  Instructor: Robyn Elliott.                                                                                                                                Students will bring a piece of furniture from home that they can carry in and out and get in their car for Robyn to help them learn the basics of cleaning, prepping, and painting that old piece to make it look new. Faux artwork can be painted right on your piece and a coat of polyurethane helps to keep it looking new. What you’ve seen on Pinterest you can recreate with Robyn! A Minimum of 8 students required to be registered by May 31 for this camp to make. 

S.T.E.A.M. Camp-Where Science meets Art:  ages 9-12, Tues-Fri, 10:00-12:00   COST: $75Instructor: Alberta Keener.                                          
This is the camp where we will explode rockets, test the strength of our bucket towers, build a balloon car, test the strength of spaghetti, create an alcohol dye shirt, and the walking color rainbow experiment. So much to build, create, and test but if you love science this is the camp for you and we will show you where the art comes in! A minimum of 8 students required to be registered by May 31 for camp to make.

Twisted Tales: ages 9-13, Mon-Thurs, 1:30-3:30   COST: $40 Instructor: Susan Brolund, Master Storyteller                                                                                                                                            This camp is for the YOUNG ASPIRING WRITERS and is designed to help them improve their imaginations through a variety of writing and theater techniques. Twisted Tales is for every child who wished their favorite folk or fairy tale had a different ending. We explore the world of “what if” through games, movement, vocal training, drawing, performing, and character development. It is NOT your ordinary writing class, but good reading skills are required! A minimum of 8 students required to be registered by May 31 for camp to make.

3-D Art & Me-Paper Sculptures: ages 4-5, Mon-Thurs, 10:00-11:00   COST:$30  Instructor: Amelia Ferrell                                                                                                                                               Young artists in this class will learn some basic paper skills, like measuring, cutting, folding, and 3 dimensional views while they make structures, towers, animals, houses, and more, all out of heavy duty paper and cardboard. Paint, decorations, printed papers, color crayons, and other embellishments will make each item a thing of art! Helps build hand/eye coordination, fine motor skills, and out of box thinking or problem-solving. A minimum of 8 students required to be registered by May 31 for camp to make.

Crochet With Me: ages 10-15, Mon-Fri, 2:00-3:00   and ages 16 to adult, Mon-Fri 3:00-4:00   COST:$25                       Instructor: Amber Fields.                                                                               Students will learn the art of crochet, regardless of whether you are new or are building on skills you have learned in the past. This class will have you crocheting in no time. At least one finished project is possible depending on the student, and additional projects can be included in the class moves swiftly. STUDENTS WILL NEED TO BRING WITH THEM TO CLASS A SIZE ‘H’ CROCHET HOOK AND 1 SKEIN OF “I LOVE THIS YARN” FOUND AT HOBBY LOBBY IN ANY COLOR, JUST NO DARK COLORS PLEASE. A minimum of 8 students required to be registered by May 31 for camp to make.

Dance Camp 1:  ages 6-9, Mon-Fri, 9:30-10:30   COST: $25   Instructor: Veronica Taylor 
The dance camp designed to have fun while we learn basic jazz, lyrical, and hip hop all together to create a performance just for our parents on Friday! Students come dressed in regular comfortable clothing they can move in and bring ballet slippers or really flexible tennis shoes. No prior knowledge of dance necessary, we will all learn together and create. This is meant to be a fun class of self-expression. A minimum of 8 students required to be registered by May 31 for camp to make.

Dance Camp 2:  ages 10-13, Mon-Fri, 10:45-12:00   COST: $35   Instructor: Veronica Taylor  
This camp is designed to have fun while we learn basic jazz, lyrical, and hip hop all together to create a performance just for our parents on Friday! Students come dressed in regular comfortable clothing they can move in and bring ballet slippers or really flexible tennis shoes. No prior knowledge of dance necessary, we will all learn together and create. This is meant to be a fun class of self-expression. A minimum of 8 students required to be registered by May 31 for camp to make.

 

Irish Dance Camp 1: ages 6-9, Mon-Fri, 2:00-3:00    COST: $25   Instructor: Kimberly Mullenix                                                     
 This camp is designed to introduce you to the basics of the Irish Dance while we create choreography that we can show to our parents on Friday afternoon after class! No prior knowledge of Irish dances or even dance is necessary, just the desire to watch, learn, try and have fun! A minimum of 8 students required to be registered by May 31 for camp to make.

Irish Dance Camp 2: ages 10-13 Mon-Fri, 3:00-4:00    COST: $25   Instructor: Kimberly Mullenix                                                     
 This camp is designed to introduce you to the basics of the Irish Dance while we create choreography that we can show to our parents Friday afternoon after class! No prior knowledge of Irish dances or even dance is necessary, just the desire to watch, learn, try and have fun! A minimum of 8 students required to be registered by May 31 for camp to make.

 

Week of June 24-28:

Animal Collage Art on Canvas: ages 10-13, Mon-Fri, 10:00-12:00COST:  $65  Instructor:Amelia Ferrell 
Students will explore the world of Collage and create an animal’s face on canvas, colorful, expressive, each piece carefully placed to create the face of an animal, and then your drawing skills will be sharpened as you paint the face outlines to give expression and personality. Suitable for framing, this is a work of art all your own! A minimum of 8 students required to be registered by May 31 for camp to make.

Art Meets Nature:  ages 8-10, Mon-Th, 2:00-4:00    COST: $55    Instructor: Amelia Ferrell                                                             
Students will explore basic art techniques through paint, drawing, collage, then add articles from nature to bring their work to life on canvas. Suitable for Framing, this is again a work of art all your own! A minimum of 8 students required to be registered by May 31 for camp to make.

Week of July 8-12

Starry Night Art Camp:  ages 6-12, Mon-Thurs, 9:00-12:00   COST:  $65   Instructor: Dawn Clay                                               
Students will learn about the life and art of Vincent Van Gogh. They will build clay sunflower sculptures, paint star bowls, paint t-shirts, paint their very own starry night canvas, and so much more, all inspired by the artwork of Van Gogh. Minimum of 8 students required to be registered by May 31 for camp to make.

Creative Crafts & The Mystery Box:  ages 6-9, Mon-Thurs, 2:00-4:00 COST: $50   Instructor: Dawn Clay
In this camp of crafts, we will create a variety of crafts that build creativity as we work through the “Box of Mystery Materials”. This camp encourages out of the box critical thinking skills as students work through creating their own work of art! All skills levels will love this class and there will be something to take home every day! A Minimum of 8 students required to be registered by May 31 for this camp to make. 

Fortnite Camp:   ages 8-12, Tues-Fri, 10:00-12:00   COST:$75 Instructor: Alberta Keener
This camp takes you into the art world of Fortnite! We will create, build, paint, sculpt masks, a battle bus, a weapon, your Skin, a pickax and an X-4 Storm Wing Airplane that flies. Imaginations will be exercised, new art techniques explored, and building skills sharpened in this unique and fun camp. A minimum of 8 students required to be registered by May 31 for camp to make.

Renew | Reuse | Recycle-Art from the Ordinary:  ages 10-13, Mon-Thurs, 1:30-3:30   COST: $55                           Instructor: Susan Brolund                                                                                       This is the camp for those that create something out of nothing and use their imagination. In here we “go green” and create something artsy from ordinary items around the house. Let’s see what you see when you see something “ordinary” and turn it into something “extraordinary”! A minimum of 8 students required to be registered by May 31 for camp to make.

Crochet With Me: ages 10-15, Mon-Fri, 2:00-3:00   and ages 16 to adult, Mon-Fri 3:00-4:00   COST:$25                     Instructor: Amber Fields.

Dragons & Knights War Art Camp:  BOYS ONLY!  Ages 8-13, Mon-Fri, 9:00-12:00  COST: $75 Instructor: Dawn Clay
This is the camp where we will have obstacle courses, races, chivalry classes, draw and paint Knights and Dragons from different cultures we learn about, sculpt a clay dragon and castles, paint ceramic dragon figurines, create a glass dragon eye pendant, and have a NERF sword fight. You will love this artsy and active camp for boys! A minimum of 8 students required to be registered by May 31 for camp to make.
