Day Dates: Four Playgrounds and Local Restaurants in the Wiregrass.

August 17, 2020

Last week, RP and I went to the four corners of the Wiregrass to scout out playgrounds, followed by local lunch spots. We had so much fun on this adventure, and best of all, our lunches were delicious and $15 or less! (Tip not included.) Here's what we enjoyed last week:

1) Johnny Henderson, Enterprise

Annie's Cafe, Enterprise

RP had a ball at this park!  It was nicely taken care of, with a lovely path that circled a pond at the entrance. The playground area was huge, with a variety of slides, toys, and climbing equipment for kiddoes to play on.  Just when he was good and hot, we headed over to the splash pad for some seriously fun water play.  The amenities were very clean, which is nice for mom!  After the park, we headed over to Annie's Cafe in downtown Enterprise. Annie's has over six kid's meal options, and their lunch entrees are reasonably priced and delicious. Bonus- it's located on Enterprise's main street, which has adorable shops for both kid and mom.

2) Steagall Park, Ozark

Our Place Diner, Ozark

Steagall Park in Ozark is adorable.  This charming little park has an all-wooden playground, reminding me of the playgrounds of my childhood!  There is also a new section with climbing equipment and slides for both bigger kiddoes and littler tots.  Of course, our favorite was the splash pad.  Just like yesterday, RP had a blast cooling off in the fountains.

After the park, we headed to Our Place Diner, just off 231. What a fun place!  It's a funky old school diner with old fashioned booths and tables.  RP enjoyed his "chick chick", while mom had a wonderful grilled pork chop.  The only thing better than the food was the smiling service we received!

4) Blue Springs State Park, Clio

Huggin' Molly's, Abbeville

So, Blue Springs State Park is obviously home to the springs, which leads into a watering hole for swimming, but they also host a very nice playground that we enjoyed.  It was smaller than the others we've been to this week, but nice nonetheless. Just like the other parks, there is a big and little section, and places for mom to sit.  Also, the park hosts a lovely walking trail, in which we completed part.  RP loved looking for animals on the path!

We then headed over to the iconic Abbeville Restaurant, Huggin' Molly.  Legend has it that Molly still roams the streets of Abbeville in her black skirt, ready to scare children out past dark.  I don't know if this is true, but I can attest that the restaurant is a fun place for children to visit!  Set up like a 1950's diner, children can order a milkshake from the soda jerk to wash down their meal.  There are plenty of delicious choices for mom too.

4) Miracle Field Playground- Dothan

Blue Plate- Dothan

Miracle Field Park in Dothan is the largest playground we continue to visit.  Situated in Dothan's Westgate Park, the playground has large areas for big and little kiddoes, and some fun elements like a sandbox, musical instruments, and a grassy area to throw a ball around.  RP can spend hours here, as there are lots of nooks and crannies to explore!

Blue Plate restaurant in Dothan is another fun place to take children, due to their laid back atmosphere and friendly service.  You can't find a better meat-and-three meal with homemade vegetables.  The children's menu is expansive as well, with classic favorites for kids.
